Panic attack averted.

PICT0002
When I awoke this morning in the normal human way rather than being smothered in soft black kitten fur I began to panic a little. I soon realized that he hadn’t been in to try to suck out my soul cuddle up against my face and neck at all during the night. So I immediately got up and went on a kitten hunt assuming he’d gotten shut in the basement or perhaps was busy sucking E’s soul out instead of mine because he preferred his soul sandwiches pure and unadulterated. Unfortunately, (or fortunately in E’s soul’s case I guess) he was nowhere to be found. Just then I happen to look out toward the back deck and there all Oliver Twist-like is Ozzie on the picnic table. I have no idea how or when he got outside. I know he was in before we left for babysitting jobs and piano lessons. E says he was on her lap at one time while she was on the computer last night. All I can figure is that he must have hitched a ride under one of the black dogs on their way out for their pre-bedtime constitutional.

He’s been in a frenzy of chest-kneading-attempted-soul-sucking all morning.

I’m not ignoring you, really.

Although it does seem that way lately I know.

Since signing my lease last week I’ve been crazy busy getting everything in order for the shop. It all seems to be moving along so fast. Since my last post I’ve done the following:

  • Opened a business checking account.
  • Filed my d/b/a with the county and had it published in the paper.
  • Gotten both my FEIN and my state tax i.d. numbers.
  • Contacted all the utility companies to put stuff in my name at the new address.
  • Started contacting suppliers/wholesalers and setting up accounts.
  • Talked to a designer about branding and logo design.
  • Applied for a merchant account for credit cards.
  • Purchased six (6) new Viking sewing machines and one new Viking serger for the workroom!
  • Things that I still have to do:

  • Finalize a budget for my initial inventory purchases.
  • Order/purchase tables, chairs, shelves, and other shop displays.
  • Order/purchase a cash register.
  • Set up my book keeping and inventory system.
  • Purchase computer, 4-in-1 printer/fax/copier/scanner, and software for shop.
  • Order new sign for front of store (waiting on logo design).
  • Order phone and internet for store.
  • The other thing I’ve been getting a lot of lately is well wishes from friends, family, readers and others encouraging me and congratulating me on my new venture. I want you all to know how much that means to me. It is a big move for me to go from a stay at home mom to a full-time business woman in what seems like overnight. I can only compare it to the feeling I had when I stood atop that 40′ high cliff over looking a lake in the Boundary Waters last summer and taking that flying leap. There was a lot of screaming and flaying of arms and legs, but ultimately it was invigorating and very powerful.
